Senior Materials Manager

Job Description

Position Summary: This position is responsible for management of the purchasing and production planning functions at the Company as well as vendor management to ensure competitive costing.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

Customer Related Processes: Direct the Materials department in the ROM/Request for Quote/Request for Proposal process to provide Contract Administration with data to support customer related processes.

  • Participate in Customer and Regulatory Requirements Review sessions to determine, at minimum,
  • Material costs; and
  • Material lead times.
Participate in Contract Award/Kick-off Sessions to confirm customer and regulatory requirements and establish performance requirements.

Production Planning: Direct production planning and control activities so that products are manufactured on schedule as per customer requirements while ensuring production and work orders are opened and closed on a timely basis.

Vendor Management

  • Manage the vendor assessment process for all new vendors and established vendors;
  • Ensure Buyers maintain an accurate Approved Vendors List (AVL)
Monitor vendor performance; and Oversee vendor corrective action process and ensure timely resolution of vendor issues. 

Vendor Negotiations

  • Analyze vendor quotes;
  • Negotiate prices and terms with vendors; and
  • Develop and support strategic vendor relationships and procurement strategies.

Document Control & Reporting

  • Adhere to General Procedure Requirements
  • Document, Respond, and take timely action on corrective and preventive actions and continuous improvement proposals.
  • Facilitate for timely completions on internal audits 

Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

 

Qualifications/requirements:

The Senior Materials Manager shall also meet the following requirements:

  • Fluent in the English language in both written and oral form;
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Possess working knowledge of MS Office;
  • Knowledgeable of GD& T (Geometric dimensions and tolerances);
  • Able to read manufacturing drawings;
  • Able to read engineering technical documents and work instructions;
  • Able to understand and communicate special process requirements to vendors;
  • Able to understand multi-level BOMs (Bill of Materials);
  • Knowledgeable on shelf-life requirements;
  • Knowledgeable of MIL Standards and other USG Standards applicable to defense industry;
  • Experience with ERP systems; and
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 quality management systems.
  • Part of the performance evaluation will be based on cost reductions.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

Ability to maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.

Compliance with all personnel policies.

Education/Training/Experience: College degree preferable; minimum 6 years of purchasing and contract negotiation required, to include 4-6 years of experience as a Materials Manager under a manufacturing environment.
