General Description

The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for the accuracy and reliability of the manufacturing standard cost records through analysis.  Partners with Operations on continuous process improvement of inventory control and reporting. The incumbent will assist with direct activities of production manufacturing analysis, inventory valuation and special cost projects.

  1. Assists with accurate and timely month-end close activities for Cost Accounting including preparing and recording journal entries, reconciliations, expense analysis, manufacturing overhead allocation, cost-of-goods sold and financial reviews.
  2. Prepares financial analysis on changes in actual manufacturing costs or product design, inventory and manufacturing methods or services provided to determine effect on costs.
  3. Maintain schedules for use in controlling expenditures and calculation of overhead costs by business unit.
  4. Prepare gross margin analysis specifying factors affecting prices, cost and profitability by contract or job.
  5. Work with operations on continuous process improvement of inventory control, cycle count program, engineering changes, and coordination of inventory transactions for production and work order processing.
  6. Prepares and analyzes manufacturing variances (i.e. material usage, planned variance, rate variance, etc.).
  7. Monitor and run periodic checks on costed BOMs, path changes, absorption and inventory valuation.
  8. Updates standard cost and investigates / resolves costing issues.
  9. Works with Cost Analyst to compile, summarize and manage quarterly Excess & Obsolete process and reserve.
  10. Assists with Annual Cost Roll for all business units.
  11. Provides weekly and monthly inventory reports for bank, roll-forward and management reports as needed.
  12. Assist with developing and documenting policies and procedures, system requirements and internal controls.
  13. Monitors compliance with Financial Policies and Procedures and represents Finance on teams designed to improve operations and reduce costs.
  14. Assist with validity and accuracy of ERP through analysis, ERP cost projects and reports.
  15. Assist with interim and year-end audits.
  16. Compiles monthly reports and performs ad hoc analysis as needed.

  • Bachelors of Science in Accounting or Finance.
  • 7+ years of relevant operational experience and manufacturing standard cost (cost accounting preferred).
  • Strong grasp of GAAP and Manufacturing Accounting concepts.
  • Experience working with development of standard cost system, bill of material concept and manufacturing variances.
  • Demonstrated ability to streamline and automate complex processes.
  • Ability to apply logical judgment to diverse and challenging situations with a team working ability.
  • Ability to identify opportunities to improve processes and controls and take initiative to recommend changes to Operations.
  • Hands on ERP experience (Microsoft Dynamics AX preferred).
  • Strong Excel skills, especially advanced financial modeling and analytical techniques.
  • Knowledge of Jesta, InStyle, Oracle and Microsoft Access is a plus. 
  • Excellent communication with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function for this position, available to work weekends and year-end physical inventories.
  • Must read, write, and understand English. 
  • Must be authorized to work in the USA.



Sitting for long periods. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper; occasional lifting

of items weighing up to (25) twenty-five pounds such as files, stacks of paper, reference and other materials.

Moving from place to place within the office; minimum reaching for items above and below desk level.

Strength, dexterity, coordination and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal for prolonged periods.
