Job Description

Position Summary: The Production Planner interacts and coordinates with purchasing, engineering, warehouse, and production departments to ensure production orders are created and closed for internal and external suppliers. The Production Planner is responsible to maintain the manufacturing BOMs and routings to ensure correct material replenishing requirements are generated. The Production Planner will support the Contract Administrators and provide labor and materials costs, and will request quotes (RFQ) from vendors for the same purpose.

The Production Planner is also responsible to estimate materials and provide inventory requirements to achieve customer on time delivery, shop floor efficient direct labor utilization, and equipment utilization and inventory management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

§  Create internal and external production orders in system to support forecasted and firm orders;

o    Control of Work Transfers: Generate work orders for cutting activities performed external to TPG.

§  Maintain Weekly Production Planning Worksheet;

§  Maintain material and labor routings to reflect requirements on the engineering BOM and labor required to complete order;

§  Work with the Human Resources department to activate and close work order codes in the labor tracking system;

§  Provide QC, Warehouse, Purchasing & Production areas with new work orders for visibility of required orders;

§  Track and report material and labor consumption for work orders;

§  Reschedule work orders as required to optimize productivity;

§  Close internal and external production orders;

§  Assign and track serial numbers for Hard Armor work orders;

§  Identify and resolve system and data issues;

§  Maintain data integrity in the system;

§  Create new part numbers in Jesta;

§  Work with cost accounting to set standard costs;

§  Provide cost accounting cost of BOMs with applied fees;

§  Maintain accurate costing for BOMs to eliminate material/labor variances;

§  Update BOMs based on Engineering Change Requests;

§  Review incoming Sales Orders for customer requirements on materials;

§  Provide support for labor hours, materials, lead times, etc. to Contract Administration in support of ROMs, Quotes, and Proposals; and

o   Serve as cross functional liaison within Operations and Quality System Management in quote generation process;

o   Perform comparison analysis with prior ROMs, quotes, and proposals;

o   Perform cost analyses as required by Program Management.

§  Prepare and distribute monthly reports and key indicators to management.

Other duties as assigned to meet business needs.


Possess excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language as well as effective interpersonal skills. Proficiency required with MS Office and other office information systems. Must be energetic self-driven with ability to be flexible in a dynamic fast paced environment. 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:  Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. 

Ability to maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.

This position requires use of and access to information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).  Accordingly, all Production Planners must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR.  ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Temporary Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Education/Training/Experience:   Some college education acceptable, Associate Degree in business related field or equivalent preferred. General understanding of manufacturing, scheduling and materials consumptions required.  Familiarity with short interval shop floor scheduling and job scheduling preferable.  Minimum two years experience in materials and/or accounting required.
